Ich bin ein Riesling-er?

I didn’t know much about Riesling other than it’s white, sweet and German. Once in a great while, I'll drink it. I don't know that I've ever bought a bottle though. I take that back. If I know my mom or sister is coming over, I’ll buy a bottle. I usually let the two of them drink it though.

When I did a search, this is what I found on Wikipedia:
Riesling is a white grape variety which originated in the Rhine region of Germany. Riesling is an aromatic grape variety displaying flowery, almost perfumed, aromas as well as high acidity. It is used to make dry, semi-sweet, sweet and sparkling white wines. Riesling wines are usually varietally pure and are seldom oaked.”

One of things that was interesting on Wikipedia was that the most expensive Rieslings are made from grapes that are pretty much rotten. It’s called the noble rot. The fungus isn't harmful, but still. Groda.(Good thing we like the cheap wines around here!)

Here’s what my Riesling drinking relatives like:
Carl Sittman
Chateau St. Michelle
Polka Dot

I also found some good info on Professional Friends of Wine. They had some cool Riesling links.

What about you? Are you a Riesling drinker? What’s your fav?

  2. I just found this through chattingatthesky. LOVE this idea. I'm following along closely now. I am not a sweet wine fan, but the Chateau Ste. Michelle is pretty good. A local wine shop bottles a dry Riesling which tried for the first time this summer. It was quite good. Much better than the sweet - if you get a chance, you might try that.
